Opening the season against Central, a regional baseball power, could be intimidating, but Tyrone’s Junior High A Team brought home a 10 to 8 victory in Monday’s game. Ashton Walk started on the mound for the Eagles pitching 3.1 innings allowing 4 hits and 4 runs with 5 strikeouts. Drew Irons took over in the third allowing 8 hits and 4 runs with no strikeouts.
After a scoreless first inning, Central pulled out 2 in each of the second and third to Tyrone’s 1 in the second and 2 in the third. The fourth left both teams without a run, but the fifth saw the action soar as Central added 4 and Tyrone picked up 6. Tyrone added one in the top of the sixth and held Central to no runs in the bottom ending the game with a 10 to 8 Tyrone win. Elijah Woomer, Cian Hockenberry, Gayge Miller, Sam Crilly, and Ashton Walk each had a run with Kendall Lehner scoring two and Drew Irons bringing in three.
The Eagle’s B Team dropped a tight defensive game against the Dragons 4 to 3. Elijah Woomer pitched the first two innings allowing 4 hits and 1 run with 3 strike outs. Relief pitcher Owens Oakes landed three strike outs, but Central equaled Tyrone’s three runs in the fourth with three of their own bringing the game to a 4 to 3 close.
